Edmundo Huarancca Gutierrez
Edmundo Huarancca Gutierrez, was born in Ayacucho Peru, his Tapestries are made of 100% alpaca wool and natural dyes. For example he gets the red color from a Little bug called “Cochinilla”wich lives on a tuna cactus.
He keeps the designs in his mind, so he does not need any drawings. He uses precolombian designs such as animals, inca´s symbols and geometrical figures with a three-dimensional pattern.
He has study at the national school of Bellas Artes in Lima Perú where he especialized in an unusual weaving technique to get abstract´s figures in both sides of the tapestry without leaving any visible knots or joints, making the tapestrys more interesting as both sides could be used.
